Into Temptation, the movie
Two dear friends of mine, writer/director Patrick Coyle, and producer Ann Luster recently released this film which has received critical acclaim and a huge audience response. In addition to writing and directing Patrick also acted in the film. I don’t know he does it!
Another good friend, David Doyle, was the cinematographer. David used the RED system and the end result looks rich, textured and beautiful. The film was shot in the Twin Cities and employed many local technician, artists and production support. Kudos to Patrick and Ann for keeping it real and putting Minnesota back in the limelight.
I wish Patrick, Ann and David much deserved success with Into Temptation. Please see the film and visit the website
The client/vendor relationship
OK–so I’m sure we can all relate to the clients who love our work, want to work with us, but want a deal. We’ve all been there, right? What if that same ethic (or lack of) was used in the “real world”. Check out this clip and see what I mean. Not as strong as the “Truth In Advertising” viral series from a few years back but still hilarious and right on point.
Augmented Reality: what is it?
Maybe you’ve heard of AR, maybe not. It’s a blend of live action and 3D animated graphics. Directors like Peter Jackson and Spielberg have been combining these elements in their films at huge costs. But AR technology is putting this tool is the hands of the masses. This video does a great job of explaining how it works and how it can be used. Mind blowing!
Visa/Aquarium spot
I love this new Visa spot set to the Moody Blues’ classic, “Tuesday Afternoon”. Simple, elegant. I love the shapes and patterns and overall symmetry. Great art direction. I will admit the little girl is kinda Gollum-like. They could have cast a cuter kid. Still a winner spot. Can you identify the VO talent?
Nissan Cube commercial
I just came across this new Nissan spot for the Cube. The visual EFXs and creative really caught my eye. I love the idea of the car standing still while the scenery passes by. It also seems to do a nice job of targeting their customer demographic—young metrosexuals with style but not a lot of dough. Ad agency is TBWA\Chiat\Day. Song by New Young Pony Club called “Ice Cream”.
Sprint-Now Network spots
The new “Now Network” campaign from Sprint really caught my eyes–and ears. Technically elegant, well executed & clever copy. In other words, it’s something you don’t see every day—great execution, great concept. Don’t you wish more advertising achieved these goals? Music track by Haito & Diringer – Perception.
The Fred Phenomenon
If you have teenagers ask them about Fred on YouTube. I knew nothing about him until I tried to watch his webisodes. No one over the age of 17 could watch these for more than 20 seconds. What I find totally fascinating is how many viewings Fred gets. He seems to average 4-6 million viewing per episode (yes, that’s million). One clip shows over 16million viewings. Talk about a cult phenomenon. This is insane. I’m sure Fred will parlay his internet exposure into a career someday. Julia Allison: are you taking notes? Fred has your internet popularity beat.
Late Fragment
Late Fragment is an interactive film that lets audiences piece together, both literally and figuratively, the cinematic narrative in front of them. The physical experience is not unlike channel surfing in front of the television, except imagine that each channel presents different scenes from the same story. Sitting on the couch, remote control in hand, audiences can click “enter” on their remote control, and impact the way the story unfolds, sequencing the events of the story depending on when and how often they click “enter.” Late Fragment is like many of the non-linear movies we have come to love including Crash, Short Cuts, and Amores Perros. But with Late Fragment audiences now impact what scene they may get next.
